Marshall County Community Band
Providing performances and performance opportunities for the citizens and musicians of Marshall County. Presented by R.L. Elsa Helvering Trust and Guise - Weber Foundation in cooperation with Marshall County Arts Cooperative

2008 has been a very busy year for the Marshall County Community Band. The following is a brief recap of our events:

  • The debut of the Community Jazz Big Band at the Marshall County Arts Cooperative Hearts of Gold Ball in February, and a performance at the Frankfort SummerFest in June.
  • A 5th summer concert series for MCCB with performances in the communities of Waterville, Hanover, Beattie, Axtell, Marysville, and at Alcove Spring.
  • Performances at the Marysville Memorial Day Ceremony, the Days of '49 in Hanover, Celebration of the Trails at Alcove Spring, the Koester House in Marysville, the July 4th Black Squirrel Revue concert in Marysville, Music in the Park in Waterville, the Axtell Harvest Festival, and the Beattie MiloFest.
  • Guest musicians, including students from the Kansas State Music Department, band directors from other regional schools, and a joint performance with the Marshall County Community Choir.
  • 77 musicians were involved in the summer performances. 22 guest musicians and 55 local performers, including 22 area band students from Marysville, Valley Heights, Hiawatha, and home-schooled students.
  • Community Band members come from communities all over the Marshall County area and surrounding counties, including Marysville, Waterville, Vermillion, Beattie, Hanover, Hiawatha, Powhattan, Sabetha, Frankfort, Blue Rapids, Axtell, Home City, and Clatonia Nebraska.
  • The 1st Annual "Shake Off the Rust and Blow Out the Dust" Community Band Camp.

Special thanks to the following area schools and band directors who allowed us to have access to their facilities for rehearsals:
Tiffany Schoenrock and the Hanover band
Carol Hood and the Valley Heights band
Tobias Wood and the Marysville band

Upcoming events include the following:

  • The 2nd Annual MHS Alumni Pep Band, Friday, Sept 26th at the MHS Homecoming Tailgate in the Marysville City Park.
  • The MCCB Christmas concert, Sunday, December 7th, 3:00 pm in the Marysville HS auditorium.
  • The Community Jazz Big Band at the MCAC Hearts of Gold Dance, Saturday, February 14th in Marysville.
